“A Living Hope” | S01E16

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3)

On Easter Sunday 2015, Katie Hubbard knew that she was dying. She also knew she had to stand in front of Twin City Bible Church (our home church in Illinois) and describe what it meant for her to have a living hope. She told about her cancer journey, pointed people to Jesus, and expressed her own confidence in the Lord.

Katie did not hope in a miracle cure, though we both prayed for a miracle and a cure. Instead, her living hope was anchored to the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. May her testimony inspire and challenge you.

Katie refers to her four kids in her testimony. This picture was taken in April 2015.

  1. Loved “living hope” from Katie, such faith in a time of hurt. Thx for posting her strength and encouragement.

    1. Norman,
Thank you for sharing Katie again with us. Katie and the testimony of her life mean a lot to me.

  2. So I am sitting in an empty dance studio before my next class to play, and saw your email invite. Rather than pass the moments with sudoku I decided to listen. I had heard about but never heard this testimony.
Tears. Resolve to keep running and invest in knowing him. My husband and I were just speaking this am about what the power of his resurrection means amid chronic pain and so little energy with his so wanting to be able to continue in the classroom. I look forward to listening again with him.
Yes! to invest in knowing him. Yes! to his sustaining grace . Yes!to a living HOPE!

  3. It slays my heart to hear her voice again. Such deep joy and pain at the same time. Thank you for sharing this with us, Norman.

  4. Norm,
Listening to this again, as I am now the same age as Katie was then…I am just undone by her uncanny ability to cut to the heart of the matter and convict me that I have to trust the Lord with the faith of my kids. She’s still not pulling any punches! Thanks for sharing this. I can’t read 1 Peter without thinking about Katie. She taught me so much.

  5. Thanks Norman for this episode. My husband, Bill, and I used to be the caretakers of Twin City Bible Chapel way before you and Katie were there. Sure wish I could have been there after she spoke to give Katie a big hug. She spoke with such elegance & grace. We are heading back home after a fantastic vacation. I needed to shed a few tears to bring me back to reality.
God bless you for opening up your heart to all of us.

  6. Thank you, Norman, for sharing this testimony from Katie. I have only met you once and I didn’t meet Katie in this life, but I enjoy getting to know you both better through this podcast. I have tried to keep up with the podcast, but hadn’t listened for quite some time. I have been listening the past couple days and am again amazed and encouraged in the Lord by Katie. The thing that stood out to me most in this testimony was when Katie said “ Sometimes I think that there is nothing we invest so little in and expect so much from as our faith.” Wow. I needed to hear that. Praise God. He is so patient with us. Thanks again. This is truly an encouragement, and God is using it to stir me up to love and good works for Him.

    1. Thanks so much for the encouraging note, Hannah. I’m glad to know that these podcasts have strengthened you for the road ahead. May you find the grace you need to invest in your own time with the Lord. It is so easy to neglect our relationship with him when the demands of life are urgent.
